Awards from Around Here.

October 9th, 2024

Yes, it’s important to make beers for everyone to enjoy, but also, it’s wonderful to receive formal recognition for our efforts to “make things nicer than they need to be”.

A few weeks back, with the help of friends who carried our precious creations to the judges in Singapore, we submitted our 4 beers into the Asia Beer Championships for 2024. The competition had over 800 beers entered this year, from countries all over Asia from Jordan to Japan. So, although we are proud of our first brews and reckon, they’re excellent beers, it’s another thing to convince a panel of accredited beer judges. Let’s just say we tempered our expectations accordingly.

You can imagine the joy (and a little swearing in disbelief) that burst out when they announced our Limelight Lime Gose was the bronze medalist for its category! It’s the #3 Gose in Asia!

Sure, the Limelight was in the spotlight as a medalist, but two other beers also received accolades.

Our Harmoni IPA was competing in a tough category that is synonymous with craft beer globally, and it received the same overall grade as Limelight. It was awarded a Chairman’s Selection, which means it was judged to be a beer of excellence but just missed a top 3 medal. We did some calculations and when you crack open a can of this juicy balanced goodness, you’re drinking an IPA that is top 7 in Asia, possibly even 4th.

The Buzzed Summer Wheat Ale also received the Chairman’s Selection award for its category, so let’s say it too is a top 7 beer for its style.

Not to forget our newest release, the O’Merah Indo-Irish Red Ale received a high grade from the judges, almost the same as the Harmoni & Limelight but was in an extremely competitive category, the spiced/herbed beer category with multitudes of submissions from India, China, Japan and other spicy places.

Attending the Conference and Championships wasn’t just about collecting awards though, as much as networking with fellow brewers, industry folks, and beer fans from around the region. It was brilliant being able to share our experiences with others and hear their stories as well, often over a well-crafted beer from around here.

Liz and I are so overwhelmed and proud of our creations. Not bad for our very first attempt at entering a competition. These are our own original recipes, refined over 6 years of creative brewing with the addition of local, indigenous Indonesian ingredients and what you get in every single one of our cans is the same beer that won the awards. 🥰

Cheers to the beers from around here!
